Monica Rosado Meredith is a SPED Teacher who is passionate about all students recognizing their unique gifts and talents so that they feel connected to their educational environment and achieve their goals for a successful independent life.
Monica was the first member of her family to attend or graduate from an Ivy League Institution. Since graduating from Princeton University in 2000, she has completed a Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. When she completes her doctorate degree, it will also be a first for anyone in her family.
Growing up middle class to two parents with minimal college experience in Bronx, NY, her parents worked hard to give her a private school elementary education. Seeing their struggles and the poor outcome for many of the children in her neighborhood made her want to commit her life to education. She had a unique Teach For America commitment experience in that she taught 4th grade in two different regions. She taught in a bilingual community school in Houston, TX for her first corps year and then in an inner city public school in Washington, DC for her second year. Wanting to put her psychology degree to good use, she began teaching and working with students with special needs and they immediately stole her heart. Mrs. Meredith has taught students from Kindergarten thru sixth grade and is now teaching eighth graders. After 18 years of teaching she has finally been able to watch children she taught as Kindergarteners walk across the stage as High School graduates, defying all odds. She wants this to be a reality for all of her students and not just a select few.
Social Entrepreneurship Project
Develop a mentoring club for 8th grade SPED students who are 1-2 years older than their middle school peers to connect and engage them in their educational environment and prepare and motivate them to continue their educational growth into high school in the coming year in the hopes of them graduating with a diploma.
